How Can I Overcome Fear When Starting Over in Life?
Are you ready to take the steps necessary to overcome your fear? There are many reasons you have found yourself starting over in life. Whether it be through a bad break up or divorce, death of a loved one, career, church hurt, a big move that you were not ready for, or simply needing to hit the reset button of life. No matter what the reason is that you have found yourself in this place, welcome you have arrived at the place of change to overcome fear. There are a few things that you should understand when you get over the shock of it all.
I. FEAR IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
2 Timothy 1:7 confidently asserts: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” This truth clearly reveals that fear is a spirit—an unwelcome presence that God did not give you! You have no obligation to accept it or let it obstruct your path. It may occasionally infiltrate your thoughts and feelings, but it has no power to linger unless you allow it to do so. Understand the formidable nature of fear; it can restrain you, hold your progress hostage, and distort your faith. Fear’s power is so significant that it requires a response from God through POWER, LOVE, and a SOUND MIND.
Consider this: Once fear settles in, it can be so potent and deceptive that you must rely on the POWER from God through the Holy Spirit. You must embrace the LOVE of God strongly within your heart, and you must maintain a Sound Mind—being fully aware and discerning in both the Spirit and the physical world! So, take a moment to think how to overcome fear by asking yourself this: Is this the companion you wish to entertain?
II. CHANGE IS HARD AND CAN BE DIFFICULT
No matter the struggle that change creates, you got this! The Word of God tells us: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” The power to change starts with a mind to change, then you need a plan. Let’s take a closer look at what makes change so difficult.
Take Moses, for instance, he was born at a time when Pharoah ordered the midwives to kill all male children that were born. His mother hides him for three months, his sister Miriam the prophetess puts him in a basket and sends him down the river where Pharaoh’s daughter finds him and raises him. Then he grows up kills an Egyptian guard and runs away, and he runs into his purpose. God gives him the order to go back to Egypt, imagine that. Exodus 41: 10-13 Moses states: “Pardon your servant LORD, please send someone else.” Can you imagine his fears, they were valid.
His life changed drastically from being raised in Pharaoh’s house to becoming a wanted murderer, fleeing Egypt, encountering a burning bush, and being told to decree, “Let my people go!”
You ever feel as if the task is too hard, you’re not qualified, or prayed that God would just send someone else? All because you have gotten comfortable where you are and really do not want to deal with change. Good news, you are not alone and well on your way to overcome fear. This may be difficult and appears to be hard maybe even impossible but believe in yourself. Believe in the God that is calling to greater at this very moment. This is your moment! This is your time! It requires change but change is often a road worth traveling.
III. BELIEVE THIS MOMENT IS MINE
You have to know that you are the right person for the job. God knew you were qualified and that you would be able to handle it. He chose you fears and all, just as he chose Moses. Believe it: All that you have been through was a set up to get you to the place of come up. You will represent God’s Grace and Mercy. Isaiah 41:10 Tells you “Do not Fear”
- Believe it! Today is your reset: this moment is yours. Repeat after me: “This moment is mine!”
- Romans 8:37 “Know, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
- You’re not just coming out with victory, but you will have more confidence and more trust in God.
Encourage yourself today:
- I am more than a conqueror
- I will gain more this season than I lost last season.
- I am made better because of this.
